Who We Are

We are women who believe that we need to raise the profile of this Cinderella of cancers, and to encourage more investment in research and the care of patients.

We believe this so strongly that we have decided that now is the time to form a new campaign Women Against Lung Cancer and to stand up and be counted.

It is totally unacceptable that:

• every year 38,000 patients are diagnosed with lung cancer, and 34,000 die from this dreadful disease
• it is the biggest cancer killer for both men and women - more than breast, bowel and leukaemia put together
• and yet, only 1.4% of the total research funding is spent on lung cancer research
• £117 per mortality is spent on lung cancer research in the UK compared to £3,745 per breast cancer death, and £9,987 per leukemia death
• the average prognosis for lung cancer patients from diagnosis to death is less than six months.

We have put up with this intolerable situation for too long and now is the time to take action.

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only charity in the UK wholly dedicated to defeating lung cancer. We feel this responsibility very strongly, and have therefore decided to launch this campaign and to call on women everywhere to join a campaign that will make a real difference to the lives of millions.
